***Included in Utah trip prices

Due to cold water temperatures during the spring trips and all year in the Grand Canyon, a pair of wet suit "booties" can be nice. You should bring an extra sun visor which can serve as a spare hat. Everything you bring must fit into an "ammo can" and two rubber river bags about the size of large pillow cases. Detailed information will be sent when you book your trip.

Rental Equipment

We have a limited supply of rental sleeping kits for Grand Canyon trips which include a sleeping bag, pad, and ground cloth -- all packed into a waterproof bag. There is a nominal charge. Rental tents are also available. Camping gear is included in the price of all Utah river trips.

What Not to Bring

Please do not bring firearms, pets, or valuable jewelry, electrical items like blow dryers, curling irons, or camera battery chargers. We do not carry a generator on any of our trips. The only cash you will need will be for beer, soft drinks, small "last minute" items, or boatman gratuities.

Where You Will Live and Sleep

A river trip is an outdoor experience. All of our trips require camping out. There are no improved campgrounds along the river. We set up a portable sanitation facility each evening. It's almost the same as you have at home except the view is usually much better and it doesn't flush. Otherwise, it is a very comfortable arrangement. You don't need "mountain man" camping skills to participate in one of our trips, but you should be prepared and comfortable with eating, sleeping, and living in the outdoors. Bathing in the river is appropriate, some guests bring their own "SunShowers".

What the Weather is Like

Be prepared for hot (75-115 F degrees) weather during June, July, and August. You can expect cooler temperatures (55-90 F degrees) during April, May, September, and October. August is usually the wettest month (short-lived but intense thunder showers). A good quality rain suit (pants and jacket with hood) will keep you comfortable during stormy weather.

What You Will Eat

Most trips include all meals beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with lunch on the last day (exceptions are Grand Canyon runs and the Green River one-day trip). Menus include ample portions of a nutritious mix of fruit, meats, and vegetables.

About Fishing

Catfish are plentiful in the Green and Upper Colorado Rivers. There are some trout in the Colorado below Glen Canyon Dam. If you bring a rod, please choose a compact backpacker model. A license is required. Fee schedules and purchase locations will be forwarded upon request.

Which Trip to Choose

Each of our trips offers differences in terrain and whitewater. On a Grand Canyon trip, you will encounter intense whitewater and more of it. If you think you are "scared to death" of rapids and don't want to experience the "big stuff" right away, you should consider the Desolation Canyon run for your first adventure. The Cataract Canyon trips provide a very high level of excitement during the high-water runoff season, generally the end of May through the first couple of weeks of June; however, only one day of this trip is spent running the rapids. Later in the year, Cataract's rapids are fun but much more tame.

What Risks Are Involved

As owners of Moki Mac, we are proud to host an excellent safety record. We personally screen and train our employees. Each boatman receives extensive instructions on safety precautions and first aid training. Our river adventures take place in rugged, remote "wilderness" settings. You should be in good general health to participate. Non-swimmers can go. We provide Coast Guard approved life jackets for your safety.

About Age Limitations

For Grand Canyon and high water Cataract Canyon trips, we suggest a minimum age of 12 years. On other runs, the limit is 8 years of age. However, children as young as six have done well on the Desolation Canyon trip. Ask yourself, what kind of previous camping experience has the child had? Use your considered judgment on the child's preparedness. On the other end, folks well into their 70's have floated with us.

What Is Included in the Trip Price

We furnish all food, eating utensils, two waterproof bags, a watertight "ammo can" for your camera and day use items, and a Coast Guard approved life jacket. You bring your personal clothing. Some pre- and post-trip transportation, accommodations, meals, and camping gear are included for certain trips. Trip prices do not include boatman gratuities.

Beverages

We supply plenty of drinking water, lemonade, breakfast drinks, etc., on each trip. Please bring your own canned beer or soft drinks (maximum two cans per person, per day on the oar-powered Grand Canyon trips). If you bring liquor, please transfer it into plastic bottles. Beer and soft drinks may be purchased before your trip in Green River, Utah, or Marble Canyon, Arizona. If you choose a Grand Canyon trip that begins at Phantom Ranch, you may order beverages ahead and we will bring them down the river to meet you ( you probably won't want to carry any more than you have to down the trail!).

Charter and Group Rates

Reduced rates are available for school, club, church, or special-interest groups on some trips. Customized trip lengths and itineraries for some trips can be arranged. Please contact us for help in arranging your charter trip or for group rate information.
