Grand Canyon: Creation vs. Evolution
July 2-9

Eight-day motorized Grand Canyon trip from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek. Twenty four guests will raft the full length of the canyon from Marble Canyon to South Cove, Lake Mead, experiencing one of the most beautiful and majestic natural features on the planet. Of course, as Eugenie Scott, NCSE's executive director, will inform the rafters, the whole Colorado plateau was laid down by the receding waters of Noah's Flood, and Grand Canyon itself was cut catastrophically in a matter of days. Geologist Alan "Gish" Gishlick, Gustavas Adolphus College, will present the contrasting scientific geological history of Grand Canyon to the rafters -- and you can make up your own mind. NCSE's "Creation/Evolution Grand Canyon Raft Trip" is a wonderful way to learn about the creationism/evolution controversy in a fabulous natural setting. For more information, or to make your reservation in for the 2009 trip, and for more information about NCSE's programs and membership, email Nina Hollenberg at hollenberg@ncseweb.com, or call her at 510-601-7203. Grand Canyon Folk Music
July 11-24

A wonderful group of four musicians, Will Putman, Trudy Hefferman, Shonti Elder and George Rhee, will join this fourteen day Grand Canyon rowing trip and perform their unique style of toe-tapping folk and bluegrass music. Each summer since 2001, we have been lucky to have them join one of our rafting trips in the Grand Canyon. They have written songs about the river and the boatmen, as well as set our favorite poem Seldom Seen and His Macho Crew, by poet and friend Vaughn Short, to music. They bring and play an assortment of instruments, including guitar, mandolin, harmonica and fiddle. Will, Trudy and Shonti have been performing and recording together for years under the Trill Music banner. George plays and records with the group Junior Hot Cell And The Yucca Mountain Boys. Informal and impromptu performances along the way promise to add to the magic of a Grand Canyon rafting adventure. Amazing music in a beautiful natural setting. Nothing could be better! This trip is also available as an upper canyon 6 day trip July 11-16 and a lower canyon 9 day trip July 16-24. See our Grand Canyon page for additional information about all three trip length options.
